{"id":463,"date":"2015-03-10T19:57:14","date_gmt":"2015-03-11T02:57:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.isam.ca\/?p=463"},"modified":"2017-11-16T09:50:32","modified_gmt":"2017-11-16T17:50:32","slug":"apple-swift-and-d-isam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.isam.ca\/?p=463","title":{"rendered":"Apple Swift and D-ISAM"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As with any standard C library, D-ISAM is fully supported in Apple <a href=\"http:\/\/developer.apple.com\/xcode\/\" target=\"_blank\">Xcode<\/a> and therefore <a href=\"http:\/\/developer.apple.com\/swift\/\" target=\"_blank\">Swift<\/a> as covered in <a href=\"http:\/\/developer.apple.com\/library\/ios\/documentation\/Swift\/Conceptual\/BuildingCocoaApps\/\" target=\"_blank\">Using Swift with Cocoa and Objective-C<span id=\"book_title\"><\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Pure C libraries like D-ISAM and the system libraries are core components of Objective-C, and are imported in the same way (but without most of the fuss) and the real details are covered in <a href=\"http:\/\/developer.apple.com\/library\/ios\/documentation\/Swift\/Conceptual\/BuildingCocoaApps\/InteractingWithCAPIs.html\" target=\"_blank\">Interacting with C APIs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.isam.ca\/?p=464\">Building D-ISAM in the Xcode IDE<\/a> is a guide to working with D-ISAM in the Xcode <em>Integrated Developer Environment<\/em>, while <a href=\"http:\/\/www.isam.ca\/?p=474\">Building D-ISAM in Xcode from the command line<\/a> covers the manual installation details.<\/p>\n<p>For quite sensible reasons, Swift Strings will not convert directly to character pointer arrays, unless these are declared as constant, and unfortunately the current D-ISAM library does not include this syntax, although it should.
